SOPD work hard to fulfil our commitment to our athletes. We have teams which take part in regional and national games competitions. The funds for which have all to be raised by the efforts of the SOPD fundraising team.
All funding for travel and accommodation has to be raised by the club and not included in money raised through grants. As we have many teams that have to travel to competitions, raising money for them is always our main priority.
We are available to give talks on SOPD and from these talks not only do we raise awareness about what is on offer for people with intellectual disabilities but have gained many friends for the club who have then raised money for us or have taken us as their charity.
We raise funds in all the usual ways, craft stalls at fairs, coffee mornings, quiz nights, barn dances, race nights, bag packs at supermarkets.
There are many ways you can show your support-learn more about Special Olympics Plymouth and District, get involved and support us to:
- Change the lives of people with Learning Disabilities by building confidence through sport
- Challenge preconceptions and raise awareness of intellectual disabilities by making local communities focus on what people with intellectual disabilities can achieve, rather than what they can’t
- Empower our athletes and ensure that they have a part to play within their local communities
Special Olympics Plymouth and District currently relies on individual, corporate, trusts and public donations and this support is crucial to our successful growth and development over the next several years.
