Are you a keen swimmer?
We have an active Swimming Club every Saturday from 12:15 to 1:15 at the Plymouth Life Centre where Coaching is provided. This is available for anybody with an Intellectual (Learning) Disability and meets the eligibility criteria as laid down by Special Olympics Great Britain. You will need to register with Special Olympics Plymouth & District within the specified timescales. See the 'Eligibility' page in the Athlete section.
Swimming is great exercise
Even if you have not been in a pool for a while why not come along and give it a go, we have great coaches and the group is very friendly. Be changed and ready to go into the Pool at 12:15.
Swimming is a Special Olympic sport and we have had good medal success in the past and are delighted to have held a Special Olympics Gala in October 2014 at the Plymouth Life Centre for anybody with an Intellectual (Learning) Disability aged 8 years up.
There's no Pressure to Compete
You don’t have to enter Gala’s or Competitions if you just want to come along and swim for fitness and enjoyment then that is absolutely fine, if you like swimming then we would love to see you at our sessions.
You do need to be water confident and have the ability to swim 25 metres without aid before attending these sessions. In the event you are unable to do this then there are 'learn to swim sessions' and you can contact the Life Centre to get more details.
