Boccia is played at Club every Wednesday, it is a very popular game and suitable for all abilities, it is a Bowling style game involving a White Jack being thrown and then teams with either Red or Blue Balls trying to get closest to the Jack either by rolling it the closest or maybe by moving the oppostion’s balls out of the way. It is a game which has to be played seated so very suitable for those using a wheelchair and we also have Ramps which can be used to assist those with more limited mobility.
Can I Try Boccia?
Come along on a Wednesday Evening and give Boccia a go - whether you just want to have some fun playing or if you would like to take the Sport to the next level of Competition. For further details about the Wednesday Club Night please see the Athlete Section.
Competition and Past Success
For those who wish to take Boccia more seriously we have an active competition programme and in the 2013 Bath National Summer Games the SOPD Boccia Team won a Gold Medal in their Division along with one of the Team Members winning Bronze in his Singles Match.
We also had a team win the Regional Heats of the Boccia England Pan Disability National League which meant that they represented the South West in the National Finals held in Sheffield in July 2014.
It is planned that we will have both Inter Club Competition and Local Competitions in the future so that more Athletes can experience the thrill of Competition.
We have a great group who assist with Boccia on a Wednesday evening and the session is very relaxed and fun. If you are interested in helping with the Boccia Session then please see the Volunteer Section or contact us.
