What We Do
SOPD provides a Multi-Sports Club each week for people with an Intellectual (Learning) Disability aged 16 + (if you are under 16 then please contact us via our contact page as we can give you details for opportunities for those under 16). A selection of sports from Boccia, Badminton, Short Map Bowls, Football, Tag Rugby, Kwik Cricket, Judo, Basketball, New Age Kurling, Indoor Athletics, Climbing Wall, Gym, Table Tennis are played, this is to ensure variety and gives everybody a chance to try out different sports. We always try and introduce new Sports as when the opportunity arises.
In addition to this weekly Club we have teams entered into various Local Disability Leagues, we also have a weekly swimming club and offer Golf sessions. More details of these can be found in the Sports section.
We can also provide a pathway to Competition with Special Olympics as not all of the Special Olympics Sports available can be played/trained for on a Club night. You may already be playing a Sport, or may not be able to attend Club Nights but still want to train through different means, if this is the case then contact us as we can get you registered with Special Olympics in order for you to be able to enter Competitions.
To see if you are eligible to join Special Olympics check out the ‘Eligibility Criteria’ in the Athlete section, but in the event you are not eligible then please consider becoming a Volunteer instead. If you have any questions regarding Eligibility or Registration then contact SOPD via the ‘Contact ‘ section.
