Special Olympics Plymouth & District are thrilled that one of our athletes Steven Dodd has been selected for the GB team .
He will be travelling to London on Thursday March 7th on the first leg of his journey to Abu Dhabi.
This will be the 15th Special Olympics World Summer Games and will take place from 14-21 March and will be the first time the Games will be held in the Middle East.
Steven will join 7,000 other athletes all of whom have an Intellectual Disabilities from 170 Countries.
Special Olympics Plymouth & District wish Steven and all the competitors taking part in this spectacular event best Wishes, good luck and above all enjoy the experience.

One of our football teams got through to the FA People’s cup semifinals in Bristol. 2 wins 2 defeats they got through to the knockout stages but were beaten by AFC Bournemouth who are in the final. Well done lads great effort.
Kate Bamforth (SOPD Badminton Lead) and her son Toby (SOPD Badminton Coach) and Volunteer Sophie Squires took nine of our Badminton players to Bournemouth for this Special Olympic competition, they returned with a huge trawl of medals see our Competitions page for more details of the day.
Adam Pope and David Aiken had a great time at their recent Golf Competition with David winning the Par 3 contest and Adam coming third in the 9 Hole, Division 2 competition. For more information about the day see the Competitions page.
After winning the Regional Boccia Competition our SOPD team secured their place in the Boccia England National Finals Competition held at Ponds Forge, Sheffield. Alison Daniels, Bob Saunders and David Bowyer represented the Club and had a great day playing Boccia, see our Competitions page for more details of the day.
We are delighted to report that two of our Athletes have been selected for next year’s World Summer Games which is being held in Los Angeles. Stephen Dodd has been selected as part of the Kayaking Team. He has trained really hard in recent years and had great medal success in various national competitions he has entered. We would like to thank Brian Day and Tamar Canoe Association who have been assisting with Stephens training locally. Continue reading
