Welcome to the new Special Olympics Plymouth and District website, which will be used to keep you up-to-date with all the latest news and events and club information.

You can also use this to contact the committee, pass on information and ideas and will provide a one-stop-shop for everything SOPD.
We are part of Special Olympics Great Britain, one of over 180 contries worldwide that form the Special Olympics. These countries are all committed to achieving the mission statement of the Special Olympics: “To provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for people with learning disabilities giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of skills, gifts and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.”
Put simply, this is to ensure that people with a Learning Diability (LD) are given the opportunity to engage in sport where they would not normally have the chance to and, through this engagement, to enhance their lives and fulfil their potential.

With over 1.2 million people in Great Britain with a Learning Disability, this is a massive task, but one that must be done to bring joy and more meaning to the lives of people who are largely unknown and under-provided for.

This is our general aim, to provide as much as we can to those who want to be involved.
Read About Us for more detailed information on our branch and what we hope to achieve.

Anyone who wishes to become involved, knows people with an LD who would benfit from our programme, or wish to make a donation/sponsorship to the club please Contact Us.
NB. The website will be updated as often as possible and all information will be as accurate as I can make it at the time of creation. any news or information that changes will recitifed and “UPDATED” will tell you where this has happened.
